If the CX-9 is using a turbo version of the 2.5L 4-cyl, that would make Mazda the first brand to exclusively use engines with four cylinders or less and nothing over three liters at that. Volvo still uses the 2.5L 5-cyl I think. However, by the end of the decade I’m sure it will be gone.
What do you think? Mazda and Volvo will likely be four cylinders or less and under three liters. Subaru could easily be next up since I think the six cylinder is only in the Legacy sized stuff. Those are pretty much Oppo’s three most beloved brands. Hmm, maybe Mitsubishi as well come to think of it.
Let me know if I’m wrong, Im going off memory which is an even less reliable source than the internet.

what
I just learned the XC90 now has 4 cylinder... I just assumed with that kind of output it had a 6 cylinder. o_o
And... it puts out more power than the Yamaha sourced V8 the first gen XC90 had

I think you will see Volvo come out with a larger engine option sooner then the end of the decade to compete with the Germans. Maybe a straight 6 turbo and super charged, probably around 3 liters tho.
Mazda... Will do something mad soon I'm sure

Luckily Honda favors making it’s sporty variants two seaters, so there is always a reason to keep the coupe variant on the Accord. If they ever give us a 2+2 coupe without Civic in the name, the Accord Coupe will disappear.

No, I meant the V6. I fear Honda will cut the V6 in their lineup and leave it for Acura.

Welcome to the future. I also think all the Japanese V8 models will disappear for turbo 6s and electric motors. Though everyone else will have V8s, only American and Korean cars will have an all natural V8 variant available. That’s my thought unless trends change.

Well I hope you prove me wrong. As it stands Volvo has a combo of forced induction and electric motors that allow for AWD, tons of torque, and 200hp per liter equivalence, plus all-electric range (I think). Everything consumers want. I think we’ll see brands competing with the Germans, but not every single variant. However, Volvo may go 4cyl only, but Polestar may not.

Hey, I was actually thinking the opposite! Honda will keep the v6 due to the Ridgeline, Pilot, Odyssey, you know the people movers. Acura is such a tech brand now that I can see electric motors being another premium on top of SH-AWD. I think, like Lexus, the hybrid variants are actually the best all around versions. Hybrid MDX, no complaints. Hybrid Pilot, doesn’t seem quite right (if that isnt already a thing).

I mean, its not the most powerful 6. Turbo 4’s have that much power pretty easily now ... and I’d assume less weight.
Camaro’s turbo 4 is barely down on HP but has more torque and the V6 has 50 more HP. Just for comparison.

What Honda needs to do is take the Accord Coupe, give it all wheel steering, fully independent suspension, and call it PRELUDE.

The V6 Accord gets to 60 in 5.7 seconds. It’s down on power compared to its competitors, but it’s not slow.

*Honda reads your post*
Hey, this is a great idea! But let’s make it a TLX Coupe with no manual option!
Sorry I’m done being a downer for the night.

This is an impressively attractive CUV, except this little trim piece right here.

I personally wish Volvo would go all I5 instead of all I4...it would be a much more interesting proposition that would definitely set them apart as the market gets more and more overfilled with turbo 4s and 3s...

Well, BMW already have triples...

I do to, I doubt we will ever see a 5 banger again though sadly

Still, gotta remember that Volvo made their reputation on sturdy and durable turbo fours, so there’s definitely some lineage to be seen here!
